Maple Walnut Cranberry Sauce

Makes about 2 cups.

Ingredients

  • 1 (12 oz) package fresh cranberries
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 14 cup white sugar
  • 12 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp freshly grated ginger
  • 14 cup port wine
  • juice from 1 orange (34 cup)
  • zest from 1 orange
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Method

tl;dr

  • Add all ingredients to a medium pot and bring to a boil while stirring
  • Continue cooking until all cranberries pop, then remove from heat
  • Toast walnuts and stir in once the sauce has cooled down a bit

Full Instructions

  • Rinse cranberries in a colander
  • Add to a medium saucepan
  • Add a cinnamon stick, 14 cup white sugar, 12 cup maple syrup, freshly grated ginger, 14 cup port wine, zest and juice from 1 orange, and a pinch of salt
  • Stir together and bring to a simmer
  • Cook until the berries collapse (~10 minutes)
  • Toast walnuts in a skillet until they smell nutty
  • Stir in walnuts after the sauce has cooled a bit
